The adventure begins with our heroes:
While working as an aide in The Academy, Hogan is approached by professor Gimbledon. Hogan is tasked with exploring and mapping three caves in the underside of Tharstan City, and given a 50gp allowance to get supplies and a group together. Hogan is also given access to the Academy’s blimp for the day in order to reach the caves, but Hogan doesn’t know how to pilot it. Hogan remembers his scrappy friend Kestrel Fletcher from his days as a student and heads to his shop to ask for assistance. Kestrel agrees to come along on the condition that he convinces two of his contacts to join, Ogden for muscle and Datura as a pilot. Hogan convinces them to join later that evening and the party heads out the following morning.
Outside of the Airdocks the party notices some graffiti that reads ‘Down with Tharax’ along with a symbol that looks like an eye. Nobody in the party recognizes the symbol, and the party thinks nothing more of it and continues to the docks. A guard checks their paperwork and allows the party to leave.
Why flying above the slums of Shadowton, the party thinks apathetically about the mundies below. The party has no trouble finding the first cave, and docks the blimp to investigate. This cave is empty except for a large amount of blue phosphorescent mushrooms, which the party identifies as an ingredient in an herbal tea used by some commoners. Hogan creates a crude drawing of the cave and collects a sample of the mushrooms.
The party almost misses the second cave until Kestrel notices a landmark that is on the map. This cave is inhabited by numerous spiders. The party burns back the webs, but is attacked by two dog-sized spiders that drop down from the ceiling, biting Kestrel. After killing the spiders, Kestrel collects some of their venom and Hogan takes a sample of the spiders.
Again the party almost gets lost but manages to find the third cave. As they approach the cave, eagles begin circling them. Kestrel decides that a preemptive strike is in order, and fires his bow at the eagles. After a brief scuffle, the birds flee. When investigating the third cave, the party finds the eagle’s nest with three eggs. The party takes the eggs and ventures deeper into the cave, where they find a large round stone door that is covered with ancient warnings written in an archaic version of common. Inside the room the party finds the remnants of a tomb, completely disheveled from when the mountain was flipped upside down to create Tharstan City. When Ogden steps into the room, the skeletons in the room come alive and a battle ensues. After a hard fight, the party has slain all of the skeletons and collects a tattered set of half plate that the skeleton was wearing along with other treasures. The party heads home to the docks having completed their mission.
